Appeal Studios

Appeal Studios is a Belgian development studio based in Charleroi, which carries on the legacy of the original Appeal studio, creator of the revolutionary 1999 game Outcast. Following the revival of the brand, the studio became part of THQ Nordic (Embracer Group) and focuses on developing modern action-adventure and open-world games for PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

The studio’s best-known franchise is the Outcast series. The original 1999 game was one of the pioneers of open 3D worlds, offering vast locations, freedom of exploration and cinematic storytelling. The studio later produced a remake, Outcast: Second Contact, followed by a full-fledged sequel, Outcast: A New Beginning, in which players once again take on the role of former soldier Cutter Slade and return to the alien planet Adelpha to save its inhabitants from a new threat.

Another major project is the co-op action game Gangs of Sherwood, which offers a modern take on the legend of Robin Hood. Players control familiar heroes, battle the Sheriff of Nottingham’s army using ranged and melee weapons, upgrade their abilities and work together in a co-op mode for up to four players.

Appeal Studios is renowned for its emphasis on open-world gameplay, dynamic action and well-crafted stories. The studio builds on its own heritage whilst utilising modern technology to create expansive adventures offering a high degree of freedom.
