Artech Studios

Brand's website: Artech Studios

Artech Studios was a Canadian games studio founded in 1982 in Ottawa. It was one of the pioneers of the North American games industry and, over more than twenty years, created dozens of games for PC, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo and other platforms.

The studio became famous primarily for developing licensed games based on well-known TV game shows and board games. Its best-known projects include Monopoly, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy!, Trivial Pursuit and Risk. Thanks to their faithful adaptation of the rules and accessible gameplay, these titles gained a wide audience around the world.

In addition to licensed games, Artech Studios also created a number of original projects. The most popular of these were the adventure game Karel, inspired by the work of Karel Čapek, the action game Aces of the Pacific, the flight simulator Aces Over Europe and the space strategy game The Train: Escape to Normandy. The studio covered a wide range of genres – from strategy and simulation games to action and family games.

Throughout its history, it collaborated with major publishers such as Hasbro Interactive, Infogrames, Atari, Microsoft, Electronic Arts and Ubisoft. Thanks to its flexibility, it was able to develop games for many different platforms and tailor them to a wide range of players.

In 2002, the company ceased trading. Nevertheless, Artech Studios remains an important part of the history of the Canadian games industry, and its games are still fondly remembered by fans of classic titles from the 1980s, 1990s and the early 2000s.
