Beamdog

Beamdog is a Canadian development studio founded in 2009 in Edmonton. The studio was founded by former members of BioWare, including Trent Oster and Cameron Tofer, with the aim of preserving and modernising classic RPGs for new generations of players. As a result, Beamdog has built a reputation as one of the leading specialists in remastering legendary RPGs.

It has achieved its greatest recognition through its Enhanced Edition series, which modernised the cult classics Baldur’s Gate, Baldur’s Gate II, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment and Neverwinter Nights. These versions feature higher resolution, support for modern operating systems, an improved user interface, bug fixes and new additional content, whilst retaining the original atmosphere.

Alongside the remasters, the studio also created a brand-new adventure, Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear, which bridges the story between the first and second instalments of the Baldur’s Gate series. In 2023, it unveiled the original fantasy action roguelite MythForce, inspired by 1980s cartoon series, which combines co-op gameplay, first-person combat and a distinctive comic-book visual style.

Beamdog is renowned for its respect for the original games, high-quality technical execution and close collaboration with the gaming community. Thanks to their work, classic RPGs have found their way onto modern platforms and reached a new generation of fans.

Thanks to remasters of the Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment series and its own game MythForce, Beamdog ranks among the most prominent studios specialising in classic RPGs. Their titles are available on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC and mobile devices.
