Black Mermaid

Black Mermaid is a Dutch independent development studio specialising in dark action games and survival horror titles. The studio has made a name for itself with its distinctive pixel art graphics, sombre atmosphere and challenging gameplay inspired by the soulslike genre.

Its greatest success came with the action Metroidvania Moonscars. Players take on the role of the clay warrior Grey Irma, who journeys through a devastated world full of monsters in search of her Creator. The game combines fast-paced combat, exploration of an interconnected world, challenging bosses and a dark story inspired by Gothic fantasy. Thanks to its precise combat system, stunning pixel art and atmosphere, Moonscars has earned the acclaim of fans of both Metroidvania and Soulslike games.

The studio’s next project is the survival horror game Dead of Darkness, inspired by classic horror games of the 1990s. Players explore a remote island teeming with terrifying creatures, solve puzzles, manage limited resources and uncover the island’s dark secrets. The game combines retro pixel art graphics with modern design and a powerful horror atmosphere.
