Coatsink

Coatsink is a British game development and publishing studio founded in 2011 and based in Sunderland. The studio focuses on in-house development, collaborations with other teams and the publishing of independent games. Throughout its history, it has worked on titles for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC and virtual reality platforms.

One of the best-known titles associated with Coatsink is PHOGS!, an original puzzle-adventure game created in collaboration with Bit Loom Games. Players control a two-headed dog consisting of the characters Red and Blue, who are connected by a long, flexible body.

PHOGS! is primarily based on co-operation and solving spatial puzzles. Each head of the dog can be controlled independently, allowing players to manipulate objects, overcome obstacles and find unusual solutions to various situations. The game can be played solo or co-operatively.

Games for virtual reality form a significant part of Coatsink’s portfolio. For example, the studio created the Esper series, which combines logic puzzles with telekinetic abilities and was one of its first major VR projects.

Another well-known VR title is Shadow Point, a narrative-driven puzzle adventure in which players explore mysterious environments and solve puzzles based on light, shadows and perspective.

Coatsink also contributed to Jurassic World Aftermath, a thrilling VR adventure set in the world of Jurassic Park. The player finds themselves on Isla Nublar and must navigate facilities teeming with dinosaurs, particularly dangerous velociraptors. Hiding, distracting the dinosaurs and solving puzzles play a key role here.

The studio’s portfolio also includes titles such as Augmented Empire, Cake Bash and other projects. Furthermore, Coatsink has collaborated with a number of other developers, so for some games it acts as a publisher or co-developer rather than the sole original developer.

In 2020, Coatsink became part of the Thunderful Group, whilst continuing its own game development and publishing activities.

Thanks to games such as PHOGS!, Jurassic World Aftermath, Shadow Point and the Esper series, Coatsink is one of the well-known British studios specialising in original indie games, co-op titles and virtual reality.
