Dume Games Studio

Dume Games Studio is a Spanish independent games studio based in Catalonia, best known for its action Metroidvania game Astronite. The Catalan directory of games companies lists it as an independent studio based in Barcelona, whilst other sources place it in the Manresa area.

The studio’s main project is Astronite, a 2D action-adventure game created in distinctive 1-bit black-and-white graphics. The game combines elements of Metroidvania, platforming, exploration, combat and puzzle-solving. It was released in 2022 and is published by JanduSoft.

The story takes players to the planet Neplea, which has been taken over by a mysterious entity and its army. Players take on the role of the space adventurer Astronite, whose task is to explore the vast, interconnected world and help reclaim the planet.

The gameplay is based on gradually exploring the map. Players acquire new abilities and upgrades that allow them to reach previously inaccessible areas. There is no shortage of enemies, massive bosses, hidden locations or special challenges known as Echo Doors.

Even before the full game’s release, a free prologue, Astronite – Landing on Neplea, was released, introducing the beginning of the story and the protagonist’s first major challenge.

Domenec Claret played a significant role in the development of Astronite and is credited as the creator and developer alongside Dume Games Studio. Other developers and external teams collaborated on the porting and other aspects of the project.

Astronite was released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and PC. Thanks to this title, Dume Games Studio has established itself as one of Spain’s indie studios specialising in retro-styled action games and modern Metroidvania titles.
