FreeStyleGames is a British games studio founded in 2002 in Leamington Spa. Since its inception, it has specialised in music and rhythm games and has gradually become one of the leading developers in this genre. In 2008, the studio was acquired by Activision, which entrusted it with the development of new titles in the Hero series.

The studio achieved its greatest success with the 2009 game DJ Hero. This offered an original way to play using a special DJ deck and featured dozens of licensed remixes of well-known tracks. This success was followed by the sequel DJ Hero 2, which expanded the track selection, added a more sophisticated multiplayer mode and introduced new game modes.

In 2015, FreeStyleGames created Guitar Hero Live, which completely reimagined the series’ traditional gameplay. A new six-button controller, a first-person view directly from the stage, and the GHTV service with tracks added on an ongoing basis offered a fresh take on the popular music series.

Following the end of support for the Guitar Hero brand, the studio also began working on virtual reality projects. In 2017, it was renamed Ubisoft Leamington after being acquired by Ubisoft. Under its new name, it contributes to the development of major AAA titles alongside other Ubisoft studios.

Thanks to its innovative approach to music games and technical expertise, FreeStyleGames ranks among the UK’s leading studios in its field. Its games DJ Hero, DJ Hero 2 and Guitar Hero Live remain some of the most compelling rhythm titles ever released for the PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
