The studio specialises in strategy, city-building and fantasy games, and throughout its history has gained recognition primarily for its original game worlds, sophisticated settlement management and the unique atmosphere of its titles.
Its greatest success came with the Cultures series, in which players lead Viking settlers, build thriving villages, manage the economy, discover new lands and complete extensive story-driven missions. The Cultures series has gained popularity thanks to its combination of strategy, building and the simulation of individual inhabitants’ lives.
Another well-known title from the studio is Zanzarah: The Hidden Portal, an original action RPG with elements of collecting magical creatures, which is often compared to the Pokémon series. The game captivated players with its fairy-tale world, battles between magical fairies and its unmistakable atmosphere.
In 2015, the studio released the strategy game Valhalla Hills, the spiritual successor to the classic The Settlers series. In this game, players lead a group of Vikings, build settlements, manage resource production and strive to guide their people all the way to the mythical Valhalla.
Funatics Software is known for its sophisticated economic systems, charming hand-drawn graphics and emphasis on building and strategic planning. Thanks to games such as Cultures, Zanzarah: The Hidden Portal and Valhalla Hills, the studio has established a firm foothold amongst Germany’s leading developers of strategy and fantasy games.
