FuRyu Corporation

FuRyu Corporation is a Japanese company founded in 2007 and based in Tokyo. Alongside other areas of the entertainment industry, it is also active in the video games sector, where it focuses on the development and publication of titles, particularly Japanese RPGs. FuRyu is known for its collaborations with a number of external development studios and creators, so it is worth distinguishing between the developer and the publisher for individual games.

Among the company’s best-known franchises is The Caligula Effect, a series of Japanese RPGs focusing on psychological themes and the conflict between the real and virtual worlds. The first game was later expanded as The Caligula Effect: Overdose, followed by the sequel The Caligula Effect 2. The series combines turn-based RPG elements with an unconventional combat system and a distinctive anime-style aesthetic.

FuRyu is also associated with the action RPG Crystar, which tells the dark story of a girl named Rei and her journey through the world of the dead. The game combines real-time combat, dungeon exploration and an emotional narrative dealing with death, guilt and loss.

The company’s portfolio also includes the RPG Monark, which is set in a dark school environment and features psychological themes and turn-based combat. Another notable title is the action RPG Reynatis, set in the modern Tokyo district of Shibuya and centred on the conflict between magic users and the society seeking to control them.

FuRyu is also associated with a number of other Japanese RPGs, such as The Alliance Alive, The Legend of Legacy, Trinity Trigger and Beyblade X: XONE. For many of these, however, FuRyu primarily acts as a producer or publisher, whilst the actual development is handled by partner studios.

Thanks to its extensive portfolio, FuRyu Corporation has established a strong position, particularly amongst fans of Japanese RPGs. Its games and brands appear on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, PC and other gaming platforms.
