FuturLab

FuturLab is a British independent games studio founded in 2003 and based in Brighton. Throughout its history, the studio has worked on a variety of game genres, ranging from fast-paced arcade shooters to virtual reality racing games and simulators. It achieved its greatest global success with the PowerWash Simulator series.

One of the studio’s first notable franchises was the Velocity series. The game Velocity Ultra combines a classic arcade shooter with teleportation and puzzle elements, whilst the sequel, Velocity 2X, expanded on this concept to include action-platforming sections. Velocity 2X received very positive reviews thanks to its fast-paced gameplay, precise controls and original blend of several game genres.

For PlayStation VR, the studio also created Tiny Trax, an unconventional racing game inspired by slot car tracks. The race tracks are positioned directly around the player in virtual space and wind through a variety of environments full of bends, jumps and other obstacles.

FuturLab’s biggest hit has been PowerWash Simulator. In the game, players use high-pressure washers to remove grime from cars, buildings, gardens and many other objects. The simple concept is complemented by the gradual acquisition of better equipment, various types of nozzles and large-scale contracts. The game became popular primarily thanks to its relaxing gameplay and the satisfying feeling of gradually cleaning heavily soiled areas.

The franchise’s success has led to a series of themed expansions and, subsequently, to the sequel PowerWash Simulator 2, which expands on the original concept with new locations, equipment and additional cleaning options.

FuturLab is known for its ability to experiment with unusual game concepts and transform simple ideas into sophisticated gaming experiences. Thanks to titles such as PowerWash Simulator, Velocity Ultra, Velocity 2X and Tiny Trax, it ranks among the established British independent game studios. Its games have been released on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC and other platforms.
