Heavy Iron Studios

Heavy Iron Studios is an American games studio founded in 1999 in Los Angeles, California. Since its inception, it has focused primarily on developing games based on well-known film and television franchises, which were released on the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Wii and other platforms.

The studio gained its greatest popularity through games set in the world of SpongeBob SquarePants. Among the best-known is SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, which became one of the most popular platform games of its generation and, years later, was given a successful remake, Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. The studio was also behind titles such as The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, SpongeBob’s Truth or Square and other games featuring the beloved sea sponge.

Alongside SpongeBob, Heavy Iron Studios has also created successful licensed games such as The Incredibles, The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer, Evil Dead: Regeneration, Scooby-Doo! Night of 100 Frights, The Fairly OddParents: Breakin’ Da Rules and Up, based on the Pixar film of the same name.

The studio has earned a reputation as a developer of high-quality family games featuring sophisticated gameplay, colourful locations and faithful adaptations of well-known films and TV series. Thanks to its experience with licensed projects, it has collaborated with major publishers such as THQ, Disney Interactive Studios, Vivendi Universal Games and Nickelodeon.

Heavy Iron Studios is still active today and continues to develop video games. It is most highly regarded by gamers for its classic platformers and action-adventure games from the PlayStation 2 era, which are still considered among the best games based on popular animated series and films.
