Holospark
Brand's website: HolosparkHolospark is an American game development studio based in the state of Washington. The team consists of developers with experience in the games industry, and the studio focuses primarily on action games, multiplayer titles and projects with a strong sci-fi focus.
The studio’s best-known game is Earthfall, a co-operative first-person shooter set in a world devastated by a massive alien invasion.
Players form a team of up to four survivors, who work together to navigate through various areas, complete objectives and face off against large groups of alien enemies. If no other players are available, their places can be filled by characters controlled by artificial intelligence.
In terms of gameplay, Earthfall is reminiscent of co-op games such as Left 4 Dead. Enemies attack in large waves, and amongst the standard aliens there are also stronger special types that require different tactics.
Players have access to pistols, assault rifles, shotguns and other weapons that they find during individual missions. Some equipment can also be crafted using special 3D printers scattered throughout the game world.
An interesting feature is the ability to build makeshift defences. The team can set up barricades, automated turrets and other defensive measures to help them survive large-scale alien attacks.
Individual missions are linked together into campaigns that gradually reveal the events following the invasion and the survivors’ struggle against the alien threat.
Earthfall was released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. An expanded version, Earthfall: Alien Horde, was later released, featuring additional content and further improvements.
Alongside Earthfall, Holospark also worked on other projects, drawing on the team members’ experience gained during the development of major console and PC titles.
Thanks to Earthfall, Holospark is primarily associated with co-operative FPS games, sci-fi settings and team-based combat against hordes of enemies.
