HopFrog
Brand's website: HopFrogHopFrog is an Argentine independent game developer best known for the successful game Forager. The project is the brainchild of Mariano Cavallero, who, under the name HopFrog, created one of the most notable independent games combining world exploration, resource gathering, crafting, building and RPG elements.
The best-known title is Forager, a colourful 2D adventure game in which the player starts on a small island with very little equipment. Gradually, they gather wood, stone, ores and other materials, craft new tools and devices, and use the resources they’ve earned to unlock further parts of the game world.
An important part of the game is crafting, building and automation. What begins as simple resource gathering gradually evolves into an extensive system of production facilities and buildings capable of performing some tasks automatically. The player thus constantly expands their capabilities and gains access to more advanced items and technologies.
Forager also features an experience system and an extensive skill tree. Individual skills are divided into various categories, such as industry, economics, magic and resource gathering. This allows the player to choose their own path of development.
As they explore the world, players will also encounter dungeons, logic puzzles, NPCs, enemies, bosses and hidden secrets. Simple pixel art graphics complement the fast-paced gameplay, which is based on constantly unlocking new possibilities and upgrades.
Forager has become an internationally successful indie title and has been released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. It is thanks to this game that HopFrog has established itself as a well-known name on the modern independent gaming scene.
