HYDE, Inc.

HYDE, Inc. is a Japanese game development studio based in Tokyo, which specialises in developing console, PC and mobile games. The studio collaborates with leading Japanese publishers and is involved in both the development of complete games and individual components of larger projects.

For console gamers, one of the studio’s most significant projects is Digimon Survive. The game combines a tactical RPG with a visual novel and presents a considerably darker take on the Digimon world than many previous games in the franchise. Development was originally led by Witchcraft, but the project was later taken over by HYDE.

In Digimon Survive, players follow the story of Takuma Momozuka and a group of students who, during a school trip, find themselves in a mysterious world inhabited by dangerous monsters. Decisions made during dialogues influence relationships between characters, the evolution of Digimon and the further course of the story.

Battles take place on tactical maps divided into individual squares. Players utilise their Digimon’s abilities, their evolutions and the strategic placement of units. The combination of an expansive story with turn-based battles gives the game a character that is markedly different from the classic instalments of the series.

HYDE also contributed to the Disney Tsum Tsum Festival for Nintendo Switch, a family party game based on the popular Tsum Tsum characters. The studio’s portfolio also includes other licensed projects and collaborations on Japanese console and mobile games.

The studio has experience across various genres, ranging from RPGs and strategy games through to adventure games, family games and licensed titles. It regularly collaborates with other developers and publishers, which is why its name also appears in the credits of projects where it was responsible for only a specific part of the development.

Thanks to Digimon Survive, HYDE, Inc. has become much better known to players outside Japan. The studio is one of the experienced Japanese development companies working on games for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC and other platforms.
