Brand's website: inXile EntertainmentinXile Entertainment is an American development studio founded in 2002 in Newport Beach, California by gaming veteran Brian Fargo, co-founder of the legendary company Interplay Entertainment. The studio specialises primarily in classic RPGs with intricate storylines, vast worlds and an emphasis on player choice. It has been part of Xbox Game Studios since 2018.
The studio’s first major success was the action RPG The Bard’s Tale, which humorously continued the famous series of the same name. However, the real breakthrough came with the post-apocalyptic RPG Wasteland 2, funded via Kickstarter. The game’s success led to the creation of its sequel, Wasteland 3, which offered intricate turn-based combat, a co-op mode and extensive opportunities to influence the story’s development.
The narrative-driven RPG Torment: Tides of Numenera, the spiritual successor to the cult classic Planescape: Torment, also attracted a great deal of attention. The game is built around deep dialogue, philosophical themes, moral choices and a unique sci-fi fantasy world in which the player’s choices have a fundamental impact on the story’s development.
The studio has also developed The Bard’s Tale IV: Barrows Deep, The Mage’s Tale and Hunted: The Demon’s Forge, and is currently working on the ambitious steampunk RPG Clockwork Revolution.
Thanks to its emphasis on strong narratives, complex RPG systems and freedom of choice, inXile Entertainment ranks among the most highly regarded developers of Western RPGs. Their games are regularly released for Xbox, PlayStation and PC, and have earned acclaim from both players and the industry.
