Iron Lore Entertainment
Brand's website: Iron Lore EntertainmentIron Lore Entertainment was an American development studio founded in 2000 in the town of Maynard, Massachusetts. The studio was founded by former employees of Ensemble Studios, Looking Glass Studios and Irrational Games. It specialised in developing high-quality RPGs and strategy games for the PC.
Its greatest success was the action RPG Titan Quest, which was released in 2006. The game transports players to a world inspired by ancient mythology, where they visit ancient Greece, Egypt and Asia and face legendary monsters, gods and Titans. Thanks to its vast world, dual-class system (Masteries), extensive equipment and dynamic combat, Titan Quest ranked among the best action RPGs of its time.
In 2007, the studio released the expansion pack Titan Quest: Immortal Throne, which expanded the story and added new areas, enemies, items and further gameplay mechanics. The expansion received just as positive a reception as the base game and cemented the popularity of the entire series.
Alongside Titan Quest, the studio also worked on the strategy game Dawn of War: Soulstorm, the final expansion for the popular Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series. The game introduced two new playable factions, an expanded galactic campaign and new multiplayer options.
Although Titan Quest was a huge success, the studio closed in 2008 due to financial difficulties. The rights to the franchise were later acquired by THQ Nordic, which released several new expansions and developed the sequel, Titan Quest II.
Thanks to the games Titan Quest, Titan Quest: Immortal Throne and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Soulstorm, Iron Lore Entertainment remains one of the most respected American RPG studios of its era. Their games are available on PC, whilst Titan Quest was later ported to PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
