LucasArts Entertainment Company was one of the most influential game studios of all time. The company was founded by George Lucas in 1982 under the name Lucasfilm Games, with the aim of expanding Lucasfilm’s reach into the world of video games. In 1990, the studio was renamed LucasArts and, over the following decades, created a number of titles that have left an indelible mark on the history of video games.

The studio became famous primarily for its revolutionary point-and-click adventure games using the SCUMM engine. Among the most famous are the series The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max Hit the Road, Full Throttle and the award-winning adventure game Grim Fandango. These games remain among the best adventure games of all time thanks to their excellent humour, original characters and ingenious puzzles.

An equally significant part of LucasArts’ catalogue consists of games set in the Star Wars universe. The studio released legendary titles such as Star Wars: Dark Forces, Star Wars Jedi Knight, Star Wars: Republic Commando, Star Wars Battlefront, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and LEGO Star Wars (in collaboration with Traveller’s Tales). In addition to Star Wars, it also created successful games based on the Indiana Jones films, such as Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine.

LucasArts was renowned for its exceptional storytelling, cinematic atmosphere, top-class voice acting and technological innovations. The studio had a significant influence on the development of adventure and action games and gained millions of fans around the world.

In 2012, The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm and, a year later, ceased in-house game development at LucasArts. Since then, the brand has been used primarily for licensing game projects to other studios. Nevertheless, LucasArts remains one of the most legendary names in the history of video games, and its classic titles are still enjoyed by players today.
