Manic Media Productions

Manic Media Productions was a British development studio active primarily in the 1990s, which specialised in developing racing and family games for personal computers and games consoles. Although it was not among the largest studios of its time, it managed to create several interesting titles that found their own fan base.

The studio’s best-known game is Formula Karts, a realistic kart racing game. Players raced on tracks inspired by real circuits, where precise line choice, correct braking and driving skills were crucial. Thanks to its faithful driving model, the game was one of the most realistic go-kart simulations of its time and even saw a Formula Karts: Special Edition release for PlayStation.

The studio also created educational and family-friendly titles, such as Caterpillar Construction Zone, in which players could try their hand at operating Caterpillar construction machinery through various mini-games and tasks.

Manic Media Productions was known for its emphasis on realistic racing game design, intuitive controls and high-quality technical execution. Its projects were released on PlayStation, PC and other systems of the time.

Although the studio is no longer active, Formula Karts remains its most significant legacy and is still considered one of the most interesting kart racing games from the PlayStation 1 era.
