Media Molecule
Brand's website: Media MoleculeMedia Molecule is a British development studio founded in 2006 in Guildford by former employees of Lionhead Studios. Shortly after its formation, it became part of PlayStation Studios (Sony Interactive Entertainment) and quickly built a reputation as one of the most innovative developers, focusing on creativity and the creation of user-generated content.
The studio gained worldwide fame with the LittleBigPlanet series, in which players control the adorable character Sackboy. In addition to their entertaining platforming gameplay, the games became famous above all for their extensive level editor, which allowed players to create their own maps, mini-games and complex game mechanics, and share them with millions of players around the world. The series has become a symbol of creativity on PlayStation consoles.
Another successful project was the adventure game Tearaway, which made full use of the capabilities of the PlayStation Vita and was later released as Tearaway Unfolded for PlayStation 4. The game captivated players with its original paper-art style, inventive gameplay mechanics and the interaction between the player and the game world.
The culmination of the studio’s efforts to foster creativity was the Dreams project, a unique platform that allows players to create their own games, animations, music, films and interactive experiences without the need for programming. Dreams represents one of the most ambitious user-generated content tools ever created for consoles.
Media Molecule is renowned for its originality, emphasis on creativity and constant pushing of the boundaries of interactive entertainment. Thanks to titles such as LittleBigPlanet, Tearaway and Dreams, the studio has earned an exceptional standing amongst developers of exclusive games for PlayStation and remains one of the most creative studios in the games industry to this day.
