Mundfish
Brand's website: MundfishMundfish is a game development studio founded in 2017, which has gained worldwide fame primarily thanks to the action RPG Atomic Heart. The studio focuses on expansive narrative-driven games with a distinctive art style, a richly detailed world, and a blend of action, RPG elements and science fiction.
The studio’s most significant project is Atomic Heart, a first-person action game set in an alternative version of the Soviet Union. The story takes place in a world where technological development has progressed significantly faster than in reality, and robots have become a common part of everyday life.
The protagonist is special agent Sergei Nechayev, known as Major P-3, who is sent to the Facility 3826 technology complex. The situation there spirals out of control, and the machines, originally designed to serve humanity, turn against their creators. The player gradually uncovers the causes of the catastrophe and the secrets of the vast research facility.
Atomic Heart combines intense FPS combat with RPG elements. Players use both ranged and melee weapons and, through a special glove, gain technological abilities that seem almost supernatural. These can be gradually upgraded and combined, for example, with electric attacks, telekinesis or other abilities.
A key part of the game is also crafting and upgrading weapons, exploring vast locations, solving puzzles and battling a wide variety of robots, mutants and other enemies. Atomic Heart stands out above all for its unusual combination of Soviet aesthetics, retrofuturism and dystopian sci-fi.
Following the release of the base game, the studio continued to expand the world of Atomic Heart through several story-driven DLCs, which add new areas, enemies, weapons and further chapters to the story.
Thanks to Atomic Heart, Mundfish has established a strong reputation amongst developers of modern action games. The title was released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC and has become the cornerstone of a franchise that the studio is continuing to develop.
