Following Midway’s bankruptcy, the studio was taken over by Warner Bros. Games, which continued the development of one of the most famous fighting game series of all time – Mortal Kombat.
The studio is led by the series’ co-creator, Ed Boon, who has been involved in the development of Mortal Kombat since 1992. Under his leadership, NetherRealm Studios successfully relaunched the series with Mortal Kombat (2011), followed by the successful titles Mortal Kombat X, Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 1. The series is renowned for its brutal combat, iconic Fatalities, rich storyline and wide range of legendary fighters.
Alongside Mortal Kombat, the studio has also created the Injustice series, which brought the famous superheroes and villains of DC Comics into the world of fighting games. The games Injustice: Gods Among Us and Injustice 2 offered a cinematic storyline, a sophisticated combat system and an extensive roster of characters, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and The Flash.
