Oddworld Inhabitants
Brand's website: Oddworld InhabitantsOddworld Inhabitants is an American games company founded in 1994 by developers Lorne Lanning and Sherry McKenna. It became famous for creating the original Oddworld universe, which combines platforming, puzzle elements, stealth, action and a distinctive cinematic narrative. The series is also known for its black humour, environmental themes and criticism of ruthless corporations.
The breakthrough title was Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee from 1997. The main character is a Mudokon named Abe, who works at the RuptureFarms factory and discovers that its owners are planning to turn the employees into a new meat product. Abe therefore sets out to save the other Mudokons. His story was continued in Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus, which expanded on the original gameplay principles with new abilities and more sophisticated interactions with other characters.
The series later moved to a 3D environment in the games Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee and Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath. The latter significantly altered the traditional gameplay, combining an action-adventure with a first-person shooter set in an unusual Western-style setting.
Abe’s classic adventures subsequently returned in a modern form with Oddworld: New “n” Tasty!, a complete remake of Abe’s Oddysee. This was followed, in terms of the storyline, by Oddworld: Soulstorm, which reinterprets the events of the original Abe’s Exoddus and features more expansive levels, crafting, stealth mechanics and modern audiovisual presentation.
Oddworld Inhabitants also collaborated with other development teams on individual games in the series – for example, Just Add Water and Frima Studio. Consequently, the specific developer may vary for individual Oddworld titles.
Oddworld Inhabitants is one of the leading American names in the games industry thanks to the Oddworld series, comprising the games Abe’s Oddysee, Abe’s Exoddus, Munch’s Oddysee, Stranger’s Wrath, New ‘n’ Tasty! and Soulstorm. Its games have been released on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC and other platforms.
