Red Fly Studio

Red Fly Studio is an American game development studio based in Austin, Texas, which specialises in developing console games, licensed titles and collaborating on projects for well-known gaming brands. The studio was founded in 2005 and its team consisted of developers with experience from other companies operating in the Texas gaming industry.

One of the studio’s most distinctive original franchises is Mushroom Men. The series presents an unusual world in which, following the impact of a mysterious meteorite, mushrooms and other tiny organisms have evolved into intelligent beings and formed their own civilisations.

Red Fly Studio developed Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars for the Nintendo Wii. This action-adventure game centres on exploring the environment from the perspective of a tiny mushroom hero, engaging in combat and crafting improvised weapons from items found in the human world.

The studio also made a significant contribution to the Ghostbusters series. Red Fly developed versions of Ghostbusters: The Video Game for the PlayStation 2, Nintendo Wii and PSP. These differed from the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions by Terminal Reality in their more stylised graphics and certain gameplay elements.

Another major project is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. Red Fly Studio created the Nintendo Wii version, whilst the main HD versions for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 were developed by LucasArts. The studio thus gained experience with one of the gaming industry’s biggest licensed franchises.

Red Fly also worked on the games Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, taking on different development roles across various projects.

The studio was also involved in other licensed games and ports. It specialised in particular in working with established film, comic book and gaming franchises and adapting projects for various console platforms.

Another interesting fact is its work on a cancelled project set in the Star Wars universe, which was to have focused on Darth Maul. The game ultimately did not make it into final production, but materials from the project released later attracted considerable attention amongst Star Wars fans.

Thanks to games such as Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars, Ghostbusters: The Video Game and its work on the Star Wars and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchises, Red Fly Studio ranks amongst the experienced American developers specialising primarily in console and licensed games.
