Revistronic

Revistronic was a Spanish game development studio based in Madrid, which became famous primarily for creating graphical adventure games. The best-known part of its catalogue consists of Western-themed games featuring the hero Fenimore Fillmore.

The studio’s first notable game was the adventure game 3 Skulls of the Toltecs, released in the 1990s for PC. The main character is the cowboy Fenimore Fillmore, who sets out on an adventure to find three mysterious golden skulls.

The game utilises a classic point-and-click adventure system based on exploring locations, talking to characters, collecting items and solving logic puzzles. It stands out from many of the more serious Western games thanks to its distinctive humour and stylised characters.

Fenimore Fillmore later returned in the game The Westerner, also known in some markets as Wanted: A Wild Western Adventure. Revistronic moved from classic 2D graphics to a fully 3D-rendered environment and characters.

*The Westerner* retains the humour of the original adventure and follows Fenimore’s next story, in which he becomes embroiled in a conflict between farmers and a powerful rancher. Once again, the player solves puzzles, interacts with characters and uses found items to overcome a wide variety of challenges.

The third significant adventure is Fenimore Fillmore’s Revenge, which offered a somewhat more serious atmosphere and more modern graphics. This time, Fenimore, together with Rhiannon, tries to survive yet another dangerous adventure in the Wild West.

Revistronic did not focus solely on Western-themed adventure games. The studio also created other titles, such as Hollywood Monsters 2 / The Next BIG Thing? No – that title was developed by Pendulo Studios. Revistronic stuck to its own projects whilst also collaborating on licensed and console games.

For example, the studio worked on My Horse & Me 2, an equestrian game released for several platforms, including Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. The game focuses on horse care, training and taking part in equestrian competitions.

Revistronic’s portfolio also includes other projects for PC and consoles, yet it is the adventure games featuring Fenimore Fillmore that represent the most distinctive part of its history.

Thanks to titles such as 3 Skulls of the Toltecs, The Westerner and Fenimore Fillmore’s Revenge, Revistronic ranks amongst the well-known Spanish studios of the classic era of European adventure games.
