Shiny Entertainment

Shiny Entertainment was an American game studio founded in 1993 by developer David Perry, who had previously worked on successful platformers for Virgin Games. The studio quickly gained attention thanks to its original ideas, technical innovations, and distinctive sense of humor.

The studio’s most famous work is undoubtedly the cult platformer Earthworm Jim, which became one of the most iconic games of the 1990s. The zany story of an earthworm in a super suit, unconventional levels, and excellent humor ensured the series’ enormous success. Other notable titles include the futuristic action game MDK, the strategy game Sacrifice, the action title Messiah, and the film adaptation Enter the Matrix.

Games from Shiny Entertainment were known above all for their originality. The studio wasn’t afraid to experiment with new game mechanics, advanced graphics, or unconventional design. As a result, it earned a reputation as one of the most innovative developers of its time.

In 2002, Shiny Entertainment merged with The Collective and later became part of Foundation 9 Entertainment. Following financial difficulties, the brand was gradually phased out, and most of the developers moved on to other studios. Nevertheless, the games created under the Shiny Entertainment name remain classics of the gaming industry to this day.
