Silmarils
Brand's website: SilmarilsSilmarils was a French games studio founded in 1987 by brothers Louis-Marie and André Rocques. During its more than twenty years of existence, it was one of Europe’s leading developers of RPGs, adventure games and action games for the Amiga, Atari ST, MS-DOS, PlayStation, Sega Saturn and PC platforms.
The studio’s greatest fame came from the fantasy series Ishar, which became one of the best-known European dungeon crawlers of the 1990s. Other notable titles include Metal Mutant, Crystals of Arborea, Robinson’s Requiem, Deus, Asghan: The Dragon Slayer, Arabian Nights, Transarctica and Colorado.
Games from Silmarils were known for their intricate worlds, high difficulty and emphasis on atmosphere. The studio often experimented with new technologies and game mechanics, resulting in original titles combining RPG elements, adventure, action and survival. For example, Robinson’s Requiem was among the first games to feature a detailed survival system and character health management.
At the start of the new millennium, the studio focused primarily on developing fantasy action games, but gradually ceased operations. Nevertheless, Silmarils remains one of the most significant French developers of classic computer games, and its work is still highly regarded by fans of retro RPGs today.
