Swordfish Studios

Brand's website: Swordfish Studios

Swordfish Studios was a British games studio founded in 2002 in Birmingham. It was established as part of Empire Interactive and built on the experience of former members of Pixel Lab. It specialised primarily in the development of action, sports and racing games for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox, Xbox 360, PC and other platforms.

It achieved its greatest success with the action FPS Cold Winter, which was acclaimed for its high-quality enemy AI, sophisticated physics and thrilling gameplay. Other well-known titles from the studio include 50 Cent: Bulletproof, the World Snooker Championship series, the racing game Ford Racing 3 and the arcade shooter Rogue Trooper, on which the studio collaborated during the development of the console versions.

Swordfish Studios was renowned for its technical expertise and ability to port popular franchises to various platforms. It collaborated with major publishers such as Empire Interactive, Vivendi Games, Codemasters, Eidos Interactive and THQ, and was involved in the development of titles across several game genres.

In 2007, the studio was acquired by Codemasters, under which it continued to operate for several more years. Following the restructuring of the development teams, it was integrated into other Codemasters studios and the Swordfish Studios brand gradually ceased to exist.

Nevertheless, Swordfish Studios still holds its place amongst respected British developers thanks to the high-quality games from the PlayStation 2 and Xbox eras, which gained popularity amongst fans of both action and sports titles.
