Toys for Bob

Toys for Bob is an American game development studio founded in 1989 by Paul Reich III and Fred Ford in Novato, California. Since its inception, it has focused on creative, family-friendly games full of colourful visuals, humour and original gameplay ideas. In 2005, the studio became part of Activision, before becoming independent again in 2024 and continuing as an independent studio.

The Skylanders series brought the studio worldwide success, launching the popular toys-to-life concept. Players could bring real-life figurines into the game using a special Portal of Power. The series became a massive hit, selling millions of units worldwide and significantly influencing the entire games industry.

The studio also gained recognition thanks to the revival of legendary platformers. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time built on the classic trilogy with a modern take, challenging gameplay and sophisticated levels. The Spyro Reignited Trilogy collection was also a huge success, completely remastering the first three adventures of the purple dragon with modern graphics whilst retaining the original atmosphere.

Alongside these series, Toys for Bob has also contributed to the development of other titles, such as Star Control II, Madagascar and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, acting as a support studio. The developers are renowned for their high-quality technical execution, smooth gameplay and attention to detail, which means their games appeal to both children and adult players.

Today, Toys for Bob ranks among the most respected developers of family and platform games. Thanks to the Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon and Skylanders series, the studio has built an excellent reputation, and its games are among the most popular titles on the PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC platforms.
