United Front Games
Brand's website: United Front GamesUnited Front Games was a Canadian development studio founded in 2007 in Vancouver. The team consisted of experienced developers who had previously worked on series such as Need for Speed, NBA Street, FIFA Street and SSX. The studio quickly gained recognition for its high-quality open-world action games and entertaining racing titles.
The studio achieved its greatest success with the action game Sleeping Dogs, which transported players to a meticulously detailed Hong Kong. Playing as undercover police officer Wei Shen, players infiltrated the dangerous Triad organisation and had to balance their duties as a police officer with their loyalty to the criminal underworld. The game received excellent reviews thanks to its gripping story, dynamic combat, car chases and open world.
Another significant project was ModNation Racers, a creative arcade racing game for PlayStation that allowed players to create their own tracks, vehicles and characters and share them with the community. The studio subsequently also created LittleBigPlanet Karting, which combined racing with the popular world of the LittleBigPlanet series.
United Front Games was also involved in the development of the online action game Triad Wars, which was intended to build on the world of Sleeping Dogs. However, the project was cancelled during testing and the game was never officially released. Financial difficulties ultimately led to the studio’s closure in 2016.
Nevertheless, United Front Games left behind several highly successful games, most notably Sleeping Dogs, which is still regarded as one of the best open-world action games of its generation. Thanks to its well-crafted story, high-quality combat system and authentic atmosphere, the studio’s games remain popular amongst players worldwide.
