Resident Evil Survivor for PlayStation 1 is a spin-off of the famous horror series, which was the first in the series to deviate from the classic third-person camera and bring a first-person view. The player wakes up in the wreckage of a crashed helicopter on an island controlled by the Umbrella Corporation, with no memory of their identity. They gradually uncover the truth while facing hordes of zombies, mutants, and biological weapons in an abandoned city. The game emphasizes exploration, survival, and limited ammunition management, and although it doesn't offer as strong an atmosphere as the main games in the series, it retains familiar elements such as first aid kits, locked doors, and key item collection.

The game was originally designed to support a light gun (GunCon), but this feature was removed in the European version, so it is controlled using only a gamepad.
