Rayman 2: The Great Escape for PlayStation is a platformer and adventure game in one, drawing players into a colourful fantasy world full of danger and humour. Players take on the role of Rayman, whose task is to rescue his friends and free the world from robotic pirates led by the evil Admiral Razorbeard. The story is told through animated sequences and dialogue that highlight the charisma of the main character and supporting heroes. Compared to the first instalment, the game moves from a purely 2D environment to a full 3D world, bringing more dynamic levels, more movement options and more varied tasks.

The gameplay combines jumping, close-range and long-range combat, solving logic puzzles and exploring diverse locations - from forests and caves to pirate bases and flying ships. Rayman gradually gains new abilities, such as sailing on his ears or charging energy balls, which help him overcome increasingly difficult obstacles. The PlayStation version retains the magical atmosphere and sophisticated level design, although it has been slightly modified from the versions for other platforms. Thanks to its gameplay, fairy-tale visuals and catchy music, Rayman 2: The Great Escape is still considered one of the best platformers of its era.
