Primal is an action-adventure video game developed by British studio SCE Studio Cambridge and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for PlayStation 2. The game was first released in 2003.

The game follows a main character named Jennifer Tate, a young woman in the modern world who is torn from her normal life when her boyfriend Lewis is kidnapped by demonic forces and she herself is severely injured. With the help of a gargoyle named Scree, Jen is transported to an alternate universe divided into four kingdoms ruled by various forms of chaos and order.

One of the game's unique mechanics is Jen's ability to transform into four different demonic forms, which grant her the various abilities needed to fight enemies and solve puzzles. Each of these forms corresponds to one of the kingdoms that Jen and Scree must visit.

Scree, as the second main character, is also controllable. While not as combat capable as Jen, he has his own unique abilities, such as the ability to climb stone walls, and is key to solving many of the game's puzzles.

The game's story is told in the form of conversations and cinematic sequences, and the game boasts a fairly high standard of musical accompaniment, including music from British band 16Volt.

Primal offers a combination of action sequences, puzzles and exploration with an emphasis on story and character interaction.
