Need for Speed: Payback is a racing video game developed by Ghost Games and published by Electronic Arts, released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2017. It is the 23rd installment in the long-running and popular Need for Speed series.
The game takes place in an open world called Fortune Valley (which is a fictional representation of Las Vegas), where players can drive freely and participate in various races and missions. The game introduces three playable characters: Tyler "Ty" Morgan, Mac and Jess. Each of these characters has their own unique series of races and events to complete.
The main story of "Need for Speed: Payback" centers on the main characters' quest for revenge against a cartel called "The House" that controls the Fortune Valley underworld. In addition to races and missions, players can also search for and upgrade abandoned cars they find around the world.
The gameplay focuses on arcade-style racing with an emphasis on drifting, jumping, acceleration and dramatic police chases. The game also includes an extensive car upgrade and modification system that allows players to customize and upgrade their vehicles to their liking.
