Assassin's Creed Shadows on PS5 takes you to atmospheric feudal Japan during the end of the Sengoku period, where you take on two main characters – Fujibayashi Naoe, a top kunoichi specializing in infiltration, and Yasuke, the legendary African samurai. The game offers an open world inspired by the Kansai regions – Kyoto, Iga, Kobe, and Osaka – where you will encounter historical figures and events from 1579 and beyond. Both protagonists have different play styles: Naoe relies on speed, silence, and the use of darkness, while Yasuke offers powerful close combat with heavy weapons such as the naginata and kanabō, and his approach is suited to direct confrontation. This unique duality is reflected in the game, where realistic stealth missions alternate with action-packed confrontations, giving the game strategic depth and dynamism.

Technically, it uses Ubisoft's new Anvil engine with improved lighting, dynamic shading, changing environments, and seasons that affect game mechanics—for example, frozen water in winter allows for alternative approaches. The combat system is refined and challenging, combining quick parries, stealth shooting, and deadly finishing combos.
