Rustler for PlayStation 5 is a top-down action adventure game that parodies classic Grand Theft Auto-style games set in a medieval environment. Players take on the role of Guy, an ordinary peasant who seeks fame and the hand of a princess by participating in the Grand Tournament. On his journey to achieve this goal, he gets caught up in various absurd situations, such as forging a noble title, helping the Inquisition, and smuggling alcohol. The game is full of dark humour, pop culture references, and deliberate historical inaccuracies, which give it a unique character.

Game mechanics include horse theft, sword and crossbow combat, hiring bards as musical accompaniment, and interacting with various characters in an open world. Rustler takes advantage of the DualSense controller's capabilities, such as adaptive triggers to simulate horse riding.
