Best Media

Best Media was a small Japanese games studio active primarily at the turn of the 1990s and the start of the new millennium. It focused mainly on developing mahjong, board and puzzle games for Sony’s home consoles, particularly the PlayStation and PlayStation 2.

The studio specialised in titles intended primarily for the Japanese market. Its catalogue featured various versions of mahjong, chess and board games, as well as other traditional Japanese party games. These titles were designed to offer simple controls, clear presentation and a faithful simulation of the classic rules.

Unlike the major Japanese developers, Best Media did not focus on large-scale action or RPG games. Instead, it made a name for itself amongst fans of traditional parlour games, which had long been very popular in Japan. Thanks to this narrow focus, it was able to offer high-quality implementation of the game rules and an enjoyable experience for both beginners and experienced players.

Although Best Media was never among the best-known Japanese studios, its games represent an interesting part of the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 libraries. To this day, they are sought after primarily by collectors of Japanese versions of games and fans of traditional board and mahjong titles.
