Enslaved: Odyssey to the West for the XBOX 360 is a cinematic action-adventure game from Ninja Theory, inspired by the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. The story is set in a distant post-apocalyptic future, where nature has reclaimed the Earth and the remnants of humanity are fighting for survival against dangerous robots.

The main hero is the powerful warrior Monkey, who is linked against his will to the young tech specialist Trip via an electronic headband. If Trip dies, Monkey dies too, and so they are forced to work together on a perilous journey across a devastated world.

The game combines dynamic close-quarters combat, acrobatic movement and environmental exploration. Monkey uses his telescopic staff, energy attacks and physical strength, whilst Trip assists by hacking technology, opening up paths and providing support during missions. Great emphasis is placed on the cooperation between the two characters and their gradually evolving relationship.

Throughout the adventure, you’ll overcome obstacles using parkour-style manoeuvres, climb through the ruins of cities, solve simple puzzle challenges and battle various types of robotic enemies as well as massive bosses. The game also features a skill-upgrade system that allows you to develop the protagonist’s offensive and defensive abilities.

The game’s strengths lie in its emotional story, cinematic direction and top-class acting performances. The script was co-written by Alex Garland, author of the novel The Beach and screenwriter for films such as 28 Days Later, Ex Machina and Annihilation, which significantly contributes to the quality of the storytelling.
