The internal architecture of the new PS3, from the main semiconductors and power supply to the cooling mechanism, has been completely redesigned, resulting in a much thinner and lighter console body. Compared to the very first PS3 model with a 60GB hard drive, the internal volume, as well as the thickness and weight, have been reduced by about two-thirds. In addition, the power consumption of the console has also been reduced by two-thirds, which has helped reduce fan noise. The new PS3 retains the stylish curves of the original model, but features a new design with a decorative finish that makes it look and feel completely different.
