Batman: Arkham Asylum is a stealth action-adventure game developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game was released in 2009 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and later for PC.

The game is set in the fictional world of DC comics, particularly the world of Batman. The game is set on Arkham Island, home to the famous Arkham Asylum, a mental institution for criminally insane.

The player controls Batman, who transported the Joker to Arkham Asylum after he was recaptured. However, the Joker manages to escape and seize control of the entire island. Batman must get inside Arkham Asylum, stop the Joker and discover his true plans while dealing with the many other dangerous criminals trapped in the asylum.

The game combines various gameplay elements such as action fights, sneaking, puzzles and exploration. The combat system is based on combinations of strikes, dodges and counterattacks that the player performs against various enemies. Stealth elements include the use of Batman's abilities, such as sneaking in the shadows, disarming enemies from around corners or from above.
