Assassins Creed is defined by many as a mix of Prince/Hitman and Thief, and is set during the Third Crusade led by Richard the Lionheart. The game is composed of three main parts: 1 Stealthy getting to a certain location or spying on a target. 3 Frantically escaping from pursuers by all possible means.

It is the last stage that plays an important role, as here you will not hide in the shadows ala Splinter Cell, but must blend in with the anonymous crowd. This won't be easy, as the variously portrayed townsfolk are vigilant and react realistically to your behaviour or actions. If you're suspicious of something, you shove them from behind =unprecedented in games, sort of like pushing your way to the front at a concert or suddenly jumping off a rooftop into the street, they'll scatter around you, alerting the guards. The setting for Assassins Creed will be three medieval bastions - such as Jerusalem, including the surrounding landscapes of the northern and southern kingdoms - plus the Assassins' fortress as their base. The game's open world has been boldly compared by some to Grand Theft Auto. The hero will be allowed to climb any building. In the vein of Prince of Persia, there's no shortage of wall-jumping and crazy acrobatic stunts, with the novelty of using a horse to reach otherwise inaccessible places.
