Guitar Hero Greatest Hits is a spin-off of the Guitar Hero series, featuring a compilation of tracks from earlier instalments in the series, including Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.
The in-game track list now supports four players in a full band set-up (introduced in the Guitar Hero: World Tour series), an 8-player battle for band set-ups, and all songs are now original recordings by the actual artists and are all playable in Quick Play mode without the need to complete the career mode first.
Minor changes have also been made to the gameplay mechanics, including the addition of sliding notes (again from World Tour) and the inclusion of an Expert+ difficulty setting for drums, carried over from Guitar Hero: Metallica.
